Hairpin Banksia, Hill Banksia or Spine-leaf BanksiaBanksia spinulosa var. spinulosa rather large, multi-stemmed branching shrub. Leaves very narrow, fairly stiff, toothed on the upper half and concave beneath. Large honey-coloured golden yellow-orange brushes with hooked dark red to blue-black wiry-looking styles hooked at tip before they open out straight. Large spikes sit on junction of leafless branches, emerging above the foliage. |
Pouched Coral Fern or Bead FernGleichenia dicarpa scrambling fern forms large dense entanglements. Slender reddish brown, shiny stems fork 3 times. .Narrow fronds with close-packed tiny beads, leathery and slightly glossy curving down. New ones grow from the dormant buds in the forks. Commonest of the coral ferns; although hardy, they resent disturbance and will not grow on when transplanted! |

BurrawangMacrozamia communis cycad or large tufted palm-like with arching spiky, strong spined, tough fronds, sharply pointed, glossy dark-green, to 2m long. Large male and larger female cones on different plants every 2 or more years. While kangaroos, possums, birds and other animals eat the seed it is poisonous to humans; though rich in starch. Unsuitable for stock. |
Narrow-leaf GeebungPersoonia linearis a coastal heathland hardy shrub with flaky dark papery rough layered bark; can grow 2-5 m. Fine narrow flat leaf, dark green, fairly crowded not stiff, finely furry when young. Golden yellow 4 grooved petals curving downwards with erect stamens, cylindrical buds and edible berry. |

Drumsticks or Broad-leaf Skeleton BushIsopogon anemonifolius erect woody shrub,with 'daisy-like' leaves, with spherical woody grey cones that give it's name. 1-2 m. Tough, deeply divided into 3 narrow segments then again divided and lobed at the tip, flat, spreading and appear pointed. |
Pale Ballart, Dwarf Cherry or Dwarf CurrantExocarpus strictus a root parasite that detaches from it's host after 1-2 season's growth, to 5 m. Similar to Exocarpus cupressiformis and resembles Leptomeria acida. Pendulous light green to bronze-green branchlets, attractive but made of scales, leaves reduced to tiny teeth at joints; strongly angular, often glaucous. Yellowish green minute flowers on stiff green stalks, with yellow anthers, tightly clustered or bundled in spring-summer. Whitish turning bright red flower stalk becomes a succulent or fleshy rounded or pear-shaped receptacle is below the smaller hard green fruit appearing outside it. The fleshy fruit stalk when ripe is a deep red and is sweet and palatable. |

Common Ground-fern, False Bracken Fern, Soft BrackenCalochaena dubia Previously Culcita dubia. graceful light green lacy fern 40-150 cm. Fronds large erect with drooping tips, alternately branches, with a broad central channel. Stems are dark near the base with long brown hairs, reddish brown or yellowish brown higher up and grooved. Softer yellow-green and with alternate frond branches contrast with the shiny dark green of Bracken Fern Pteridium esculentum. |
Swampy Kunzea, White Kunzea, Tick Bush, Honey BushKunzea ambigua Fragrant fluffy flowers attracting many small insects. Large spreading shrubs with dense foliage to 1.5m. Fine alternate, narrow, very small leaves crowded togther, oil dots so aromatic. Yellow-creamy filaments, strong honeyed scented, like bottlebrushes except stamens remain free to the base, The fruit resemble berries. |

Swamp Ti-tree or Tea-treeLeptospermum liversidgei spreading shrub with thin trunk of hard bark to 1.5-2m. Narrow, lanceolate, very small, crowded, fine soft leaves with oil content. Domed sheeny woody capsule with 5 marked chambers. |
Speargrass or Small Grass TreeXanthorrhoea minor ssp. minor smallest of the local grass trees, with short slender spike of tiny creamy-white flowers on a slender but strong stem, only 60 cm -1m. Leaves triangular in section, often concave above, 2-3 mm wide x 1mm thick. Copes with boggy seasonal conditions. |
