Community Nursery Project |
Milton Rural Landcare Inc. are pleased to coordinate community access to the Deering St Council Nursery. Milton Rural Landcare group works under TCM principles, which include remnant vegetation strategies. We are propagating native plants for our rural streambank restoration projects, foreshore species are being raised for spots where 'ferals' like Bitou bush or Lantana have been removed and we operate a weed exhange program where we will replace a non native species removed from a garden with an endemic native.
Our operate under a system of open bribery - we give you (as a member) as many plants as you are willing to put into the ground free of charge and accept any donation you consider appropriate.
Milton Rural Landcare Inc volunteer Nursery work has involved many hours cleaning the areas ready for use. We currently produce in excess of 7,000 tubestock per annum with over 200 species propogated. The hours our volunteers generate in these activities are recorded and used when grants are applied for.
We run training sessons on varying propogation techniques as required. the first Tuesday of each month we hold a regular BBQ lunch - it provides a time for our committee to meet and talk with volunteers and other community members.
If your group has seed collected contact our coordinator for propagation by email or see her at the Milton Rural Landcare Nursery, left of the carpark in Deering St Council compound on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10-noon each week
